Trellech Village Hall Newsletter – Feb 2014

photoCAR97BDQWelcome
I read in our local paper that it’s rained at some point every day since 12th December 2013.  By the time you read this that will have been over 58 days!  I hope that you’re all managing to stay warm and dry and haven’t been too adversely affected by the weather.

Instead of battling the elements, grab a cuppa and settle down to read about what’s going on in Trellech Village Hall (The Babington Centre).  We’ve some fascinating talks coming up, some charity initiatives we hope you’ll support plus some ideas to help you celebrate those special events in your life.
Hope to see you soon.

PS – Absolultely ages ago I submitted an application to Waitrose for Trellech Teas to benefit from their Green Token scheme and I am delighted to announce that we’ve been selected to be one of the good causes they support next month.  So, please save all your shopping trips for March – and go lots and lots of times!

David Davies MP – spills the beans
Saturday Feb 22nd, 9:45am
Have you ever wondered what our local MP gets up to in a day?  Come along on Feb 22nd when David Davies, MP will be talking about what takes up his time – locally and in Westminster.  You don’t have to agree with his politics – it’s not about that – but about ‘A Day in the Life of an MP’.
The morning starts at 9:45am with refreshments and the talk starts at 10:30am.
Tickets are £5 and are on sale from Trellech Teas or by clicking here.  All the profit from the morning will be donated to local Primary Schools.

New Dog Training Classes
Tuesday evenings
Our very popular dog training classes have started a new course.  If you’re interested in joining in on this one or finding out about when the next one starts, please contact Helen Atton on 07974 444082.

Fund raising with Trellech Teas
Did you know that Trellech Teas doesn’t just raise money through selling tea and cake?  At the end of January we had a ‘Clothes Rail’ sale – well looked after, second-hand clothes were on sale.  We not only raised nearly £30 but we also helped Busy Body swell their coffers by donating the left over clothes to them to pass on to The Shaw Trust.
It proved a very popular idea so we’ll do it again.  We’re also going to have a Kitchen Table sale and a Home Makers sale for all those unwanted, unused but good quality items cluttering up our homes.  Keep an eye out for dates.
We also raise money through the sale of second hand books and DVDs.  If you fancy something to read or watch, come along and browse through our selection.  Books are as little as 50p each and DVDs only £1.
This year we’re also giving the Teas over to local good causes to help them raise money.  Next month Busy Bodies (the playgroup based in The Babington Centre) will be hosting Trellech Teas so please come along and support them on March 28th.  More about that next month.

Celebrate your special day with Trellech Teas
We’ve recently had two birthday celebrations at Trellech Teas.  Yvonne Turner held her birthday tea in January and Corinne Davies, one of our regular customers, was presented with a ‘cheese cake’ to help celebrate her birthday recently.

If you have a special occasion that you’d like to celebrate but you don’t fancy doing the baking, let us do it for you!  If you contact me in advance of the date with a request for your favourite cake we’ll do our very best to bake it for you.  It’ll be on offer with all the others so get there early to make sure you get a slice.  The cost of this?  Absolutely nothing!  I can’t promise that we’ll be able to bake every cake that’s requested, but we will do our very best.

Trellech Teas

Every Friday

2:00pm – 4:30pm

Every Friday afternoon you can come along and enjoy proper tea, coffee and homemade cakes.  Everyone is invited to attend.  Trellech Teas is a friendly place – you’ll never be left to sit alone.  If you need a lift and live close by, please let me know.
We also offer afternoon tea for children, to give parents the night off from having to cook.  A sandwich, drink, piece of fruit and a slice of cake is just £3.50.  If you’d like to order a tea, let me know or contact Debbie on 01600 860322.
We are always in need of people to make cakes for us and if you fancy helping out at Trellech Teas you could join the ranks of the Trellech Tea Ladies (or Gents!).  Please contact me if you’d like to find out more.
Hope to see you on Friday!

Mrs Milk

Among the many people who support Trellech Teas is Veronica Godier – aka Mrs Milk.  Every week, come rain or shine, she delivers milk to the Teas for free.  It saves us money over the year and we like supporting a local business buy buying her milk.’Popping to the shop’ is a thing of the past for many of us.  Not only is it unlikely we’ve got a shop nearby but there’s also the cost of fuel to consider before going out for a paper or pint of milk.Mrs Milk offers a delivery service for milk, local free range eggs and potatoes and freshly baked bread and buns from Wigmore’s bakery.  She also delivers papers and your favourite magazines. From 1 to 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year you could be saving yourself a lot of hassle and expense if Mrs Milk is coming to your door!If you’d like to find out how Mrs Milk can help you, please contact Veronica on 01600 860653 or email her on veronica.mrsmilk@gmail.com.
