Trellech Village Hall Newsletter – November 2015

photoCAR97BDQ

As I sit here writing the letter this month, the wind is howling outside and it’s dark already at 5:00pm and it’s been raining.  However, that means the waterfall at Cleddon is finally a ‘fall’ rather than a ‘dribble’ and the shorter days are a good reason to get snuggled up indoors and watch the leaves blow by!

Walking in the village can be rather hazardous at the best of times, and the gloomy evenings can make it worse.  If you’d like to find out about the campaign to make Trellech a much safer place, there’s an opportunity on Friday to find out how.

We also have another Take Over Teas coming up and a very packed trip to Bath. Plus we have some feedback on the very successful Apple Day last month and news about the closure of the Food Co-op.

So, grab a cuppa and read on….

Make Trellech Safe
Drop in on Friday November 13th
3:00pm – 6:00pm
Following the submission of the Make Trellech Safe petition MCC highways have put together a draft road calming proposal for the village. This Friday there is a drop in session so that you can give your feedback and views on the proposal.
Stephen Parsons from Road Casualty Reduction Partnership (Go Safe) Gwent Police will be attending the session to explain the Community Speed Watch Group Scheme and hopefully get names of those who are interested in signing up. (A Scheme that is both popular and successful in Llandogo)
Monmouthshire County Council highways will also be present to discuss road calming proposals for local residents to comment on.
We may need to apply to Welsh Government for funding and demonstrating that there has been some consultation with the local community does strengthen our application.

For more information, contact Debby Blakebrough, our local Independent Councillor:

Trellech Take Over Teas
Friday November 20th

As you know Trellech Teas gets ‘taken over’ a few times a year.  Local groups take over the Teas – they bake and don the Trellech Teas pinnies – and all the money raised, after expenses, goes to the good cause.

This month it’s the turn of St Nicholas’s Church and Churchyard.  Come along and support – all the usual goodies will be available, plus some extras.  And you’ll have to turn up to find out what!

Dates for next year’s Take Over Teas have been decided.  If you know a group who could benefit from raising funds in this way, please take a lookhereSubmissions must be in by November 27th at the latest.

Apple Day
Thank you
Apple Day

If you didn’t make it along to the Apple Day last month, you missed a treat.  It was a very well attended day – and included the making of our very own apple juice, from the apples in the Village Hall grounds.

A very healthy £500 was raised on the day.  Huge thanks to Peter and Sue Flower and Linda Campbell and all the helpers who made the day such a success.

Trellech Teas
Coming soon…..

As you know we occasionally have local providers of goods and services come along to showcase their wares.  Here’s what’s coming up this month.

November 27th – Fabulous Christmas Bunting

Christmas Bunting

Sarah McMahon will be bringing along her handmade Christmas bunting.  Sarah’s bunting comes in various and styles (for children, garden, home and camping as well as for Christmas) and is made from vintage fabrics and remnants.  So, if you want something a bit different to decorate your home this year, come along and take a look or visit her store online here.

If you know anyone who’d like a stall please ask them to contact Sarah Whiddett on 01600 860967 or sarahwhiddett@hotmail.co.uk.

Food Co-op
As you may know we have been running a Food Co-op since April.  Unfortunately, interest in the Co-op has waned to the point where it’s no longer viable so, sadly, it has been stopped.  Huge thanks to Rosemary Decker-Thomas for setting this up and organising it every week over the last six months.
Trellech Trip to Bath
December 1st
Bus Trip
This has been a sell out – we have one ticket left!  I will be putting together a reserve list in case anyone who’s already booked can’t make it – and if we get enough people on that list I’ll see if we can organise a bigger bus.  So, if you haven’t got your ticket already please contact Sarah Whiddett on 01600 860967 or sarahwhiddett@hotmail.co.uk.
