Trellech Village Hall Newsletter – July 2015

What an exciting month – our new village shop opened yesterday, Trellech BIG Weekend is only a week away and the Village Hall is having a mini make-over.  There’s definitely change in the air around the village – and hopefully all for the good.

So, grab a cuppa and read on…

Trellech Teas news
I’m in the process of tallying up our last quarter’s accounts.  Since we opened we’ve raised a huge £11,300, nearly £850 of that was in the last quarter alone!  Some of that money has gone to fund the BIG Weekend and much of it is funding the rennovations in the Hall.  More on both of these below.

Once again, a huge ‘thankyou’ goes to all our hard working Trellech Tea Ladies, our bakers and of course our lovely customers.  Trellech Teas has become part of Trellech Village life, and long may it continue.

On that note, we really need some more people on our baking and serving rotas.  If you could spare the occasional Friday afternoon and fancy donning a prestigious Trellech Teas pinny, or if you could bake a cake every once in a while, please let me know.  My details are at the end of this newsletter.

In September we’ll be celebrating our third birthday so look out for more on that in the coming months.

Trellech BIG Weekend
July 17th – July 19th
This is the third BIG Weekend and there should be something for everyone.  At the Village Hall there is a Fun Dog Show on Saturday afternoon with classes such as Most Handsome Dog, Prettiest Bitch, Best Rescue Dog and Dog with the Waggiest Tail.  And if your pooch has never won anything before perhaps enter him or her into the Dog Never To Have Won First Prize In Any Show category!  You enter on the day and it’s just £1 per class.

In the evening the Trustees are hosting a Wine and Cheese Supper.  For just £10 per person we will be tasting a range of wines, presented by local wine expert Peter Ayling.  Alongside this we’ll be eating some fabulous food, specially prepared to go with each of the wines, provided by Sue Flower.  Tickets must be bought in advance from Trellech Teas or from Sarah Whiddett (contact details below).

There will  be refreshments provided every day too.  Trellech Teas will be providing them on Friday and Saturday and Busy Bodies Playgroup will be hard at work on Sunday.

For more information on all the events in and around the village please visit the BIG Weekend website (click here) or pick up a leaflet which you’ll find in locations around the village.

Food Co-op
The Food Co-op is going really well.  Each Friday a band of happy customers collect their bags of produce – vegetables, fruit, salad and stiry fry.  It’s amazing what fills the bags for just £3 per bag.  If you’d like to see what you’d get or would like to order a bag please come along to Trellech Teas.  Orders placed and paid for on one Friday are collected the following week.  There’s no need to have a regular order – you can have as much or as little, as often or as irregularly as you like.

Village Hall Mini Makeover
Our kitchen has long needed some serious attention and this summer it’ll be getting it.  So, from July 20th for a period of about three weeks the old kitchen will be getting a make-over and the Village Hall will be closed.  Much of this work is being funded by the money raised from Trellech Teas.

Obviously Trellech Teas will be affected by this work.  We may relocate or may have to close for a week or so.  I’ll send out more information when I know exactly what we’ll be doing and, of course, we’ll let you all know at the Teas.

Trellech Village Hall Newsletter – April 2015

Happy Easter to you all.  Mother Nature has been doing a bit of spring cleaning over the last couple of days, ready for the Easter Weekend!  Whatever your plans for the next few days, I hope you have a lovely time – and perhaps see you at Trellech Teas on Friday.  Yes, we’ll be there, with some slightly different goodies on offer – and some colouring in.

New classes are starting this month, plus we’re setting up a Food Co-op.  Dates are set for the Trellech BIG Weekend and we have spring time flowers at Trellech Teas on Friday.

So, read on……..and we hope to see you soon.

Trellech Teas news
We are open tomorrow, Good Friday, so please come along and enjoy all things ‘eggy’.  We’ll also have a big colouring in Easter tablecloth for the young at heart.

We are also very pleased to welcome back Justine Scouller from Far Hill Flowers.  Justine will be bringing along spring flowers to adorn your homes over the coming festivities.  Take a look at her website here.

I’ve totted up our first quarter’s takings and pleased to announce that we raised just over £1,000 taking the total we’ve raised since we started to just over £10,000!  It’s not all about raising money though. Far more important (to me anyway) is the fantastic community focus of the Teas; bringing together friends – old and new, young and not so young (!) – for a sociable, happy end to the working week.

As always, a HUGE ‘thank you’ to everyone who is involved – as a baker, a server or a customer.  Well done to you all – we couldn’t do it without you.

We need you
Are you able to spare a Friday afternoon and/or bake a cake for Trellech Teas once in a while?  We are looking for willing volunteers to help the Teas continue to be the success they are.  If you’d like to join our merry band of Tea Ladies (or Gents!) and wear the prestigious pinny, or simply bake something for us every now and then, please contact Sarah Whiddett on or 01600 860967.

FIDO Dog training
Two new classes for you and your pooch
Helen Atton is running a Follow On FIDO training course on Wednesday evenings for eight weeks. This is an advanced course, ideal for dog owners who want to consolidate their dog’s training and move on to more challenging commands.

There is also a new Training and Socialisation eight week course starting on Thursday 16th April.

For more information and to book on either of these courses, contact Helen on 07974 444082 or on email

Tai Chi
New course starting April 13th
Steve Whiddett is starting a new 12 week Tai Chi class, beginning Monday 13th April 7:00pm – 8:00pm.  The course will be suitable for absolute beginners and the first two sessions will focus on principles, posture and the basic movements in Tai Chi.

For those who have already practiced some Tai Chi you can come to the first two sessions (and you are encouraged to if you can), but if you are unable or prefer not to, you can start at the session on April 27th.

This course will cover about one third of the 24 step Yang style routine, often referred to as the Beijing 24 routine. This routine is suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. For those who have already trained with Steve, this course builds on the eight posture routine and all you have learned so far.
The course fee will be £60 for twelve weeks or £50 if starting on the 27th April, payable at the beginning of the course. Once the course has started the group can look at suitable dates for courses to cover the remaining sections of the routine.
For more information and to book, please contact Steve Whiddett on 01600 86096 or email him on

Food Co-op
Starts April 24th
at Trellech Teas
We’re taking orders for our first Food Co-op deliveries on April 24th – which means the first bags will be available to collect on May 1st.

If you’re not familiar with the scheme, it works on an order/pay on a Friday; collect (and order again if you wish) the following Friday.

There will be five types of bags available – Fruit, Vegetables, Mixed (fruit and veg), Salad and Stir Fry.  Bags are just £3.00 each and you can order as many as you want, as often as you want.

You must collect your bags the week after you order them – we can’t deliver to home addresses.  You can send friends to collect if you’re not able to make it to the Teas.

If you’d like more information about the Food Co-op, we have flyers available at the Teas or you can click here for an information brochure.
