Trellech Village Hall Newsletter – July 2015

What an exciting month – our new village shop opened yesterday, Trellech BIG Weekend is only a week away and the Village Hall is having a mini make-over.  There’s definitely change in the air around the village – and hopefully all for the good.

So, grab a cuppa and read on…

Trellech Teas news
I’m in the process of tallying up our last quarter’s accounts.  Since we opened we’ve raised a huge £11,300, nearly £850 of that was in the last quarter alone!  Some of that money has gone to fund the BIG Weekend and much of it is funding the rennovations in the Hall.  More on both of these below.

Once again, a huge ‘thankyou’ goes to all our hard working Trellech Tea Ladies, our bakers and of course our lovely customers.  Trellech Teas has become part of Trellech Village life, and long may it continue.

On that note, we really need some more people on our baking and serving rotas.  If you could spare the occasional Friday afternoon and fancy donning a prestigious Trellech Teas pinny, or if you could bake a cake every once in a while, please let me know.  My details are at the end of this newsletter.

In September we’ll be celebrating our third birthday so look out for more on that in the coming months.

Trellech BIG Weekend
July 17th – July 19th
This is the third BIG Weekend and there should be something for everyone.  At the Village Hall there is a Fun Dog Show on Saturday afternoon with classes such as Most Handsome Dog, Prettiest Bitch, Best Rescue Dog and Dog with the Waggiest Tail.  And if your pooch has never won anything before perhaps enter him or her into the Dog Never To Have Won First Prize In Any Show category!  You enter on the day and it’s just £1 per class.

In the evening the Trustees are hosting a Wine and Cheese Supper.  For just £10 per person we will be tasting a range of wines, presented by local wine expert Peter Ayling.  Alongside this we’ll be eating some fabulous food, specially prepared to go with each of the wines, provided by Sue Flower.  Tickets must be bought in advance from Trellech Teas or from Sarah Whiddett (contact details below).

There will  be refreshments provided every day too.  Trellech Teas will be providing them on Friday and Saturday and Busy Bodies Playgroup will be hard at work on Sunday.

For more information on all the events in and around the village please visit the BIG Weekend website (click here) or pick up a leaflet which you’ll find in locations around the village.

Food Co-op
The Food Co-op is going really well.  Each Friday a band of happy customers collect their bags of produce – vegetables, fruit, salad and stiry fry.  It’s amazing what fills the bags for just £3 per bag.  If you’d like to see what you’d get or would like to order a bag please come along to Trellech Teas.  Orders placed and paid for on one Friday are collected the following week.  There’s no need to have a regular order – you can have as much or as little, as often or as irregularly as you like.

Village Hall Mini Makeover
Our kitchen has long needed some serious attention and this summer it’ll be getting it.  So, from July 20th for a period of about three weeks the old kitchen will be getting a make-over and the Village Hall will be closed.  Much of this work is being funded by the money raised from Trellech Teas.

Obviously Trellech Teas will be affected by this work.  We may relocate or may have to close for a week or so.  I’ll send out more information when I know exactly what we’ll be doing and, of course, we’ll let you all know at the Teas.

Trellech Village Hall Newsletter – January 2015

Happy New Year to you all.  I hope you had a lovely festive break and a well earned rest at some point over the last couple of weeks! All the excitement and preparation for Christmas and, of course, the big day itself can make January feel a bit ‘flat’.  However, it doesn’t have to be that way – there are things to do in the Village Hall, even if it’s just coming along for a cuppa.Take a look at what’s on and we hope to see you soon.Sarah

Trellech Teas news
Opening, farewell and fundraising
We were closed last Friday (even our dedicated Tea Ladies weren’t going to come in on Boxing Day!) but we open again on January 2nd with limited cake choices, and then we’re back to normal on the 9th.We said a sad ‘bon voyage’ to one of our lovely Trellech Chief Tea Ladies last month.  Wendy Lilley and her husband Paul are off on their next adventure, moving back to the West Country where they are both from and where one of their daughters lives.  Wendy will be missed by us all – she was one of our star bakers and helpers.I’m in the process of finalising our last quarter and last year’s takings.  I don’t have final figures yet but I can tell you that we raised £1,400 in the last quarter; just over £4,700 in the last year and since we started in September 2012 we’ve raised a very impressive £9,100.I’m so proud of everyone who is involved – either as a baker, a server or a customer.  Well done to you all – we couldn’t do it without you (or have so much fun in the process!).

A ‘Thank you’ and celebration of John Windridge
Sunday, January 4th 11:00am – 2:00pm

Trellech BIG Weekend
This year was the third BIG Weekend (if you count the Jubilee weekend in 2012 as year 1).  We packed a lot into the three days and I hope you were able to attend at least something in that time.

We kicked off with Trellech Teas and the Flower Festival in St Nicholas Church and finished with a very well attended Songs of Praise family service and afternoon tea, also at the Church.  Due to the fantastic fund raising that has been going on all year via Trellech Teas (more of that below) we had enough money to not only pay for much better marketing (flyers, posters, banners etc) but also to subsidise events so they were either free or at a nominal cost.

Thanks to all the organisers who spent many months getting everything sorted and to everyone who took part.

Next year we’ll be doing it all again – July 17-19.  If you’d like to make any suggestions and/or get involved in planning please let me know (
