Trellech Village Hall Newsletter – September 2015

Firstly, apologies for the late arrival of this months’ newsletter – I’ve had rather a busy month!  Still, better late than never.

As many of you will know, we’ve had some major work being done at the Hall – work that’s still ongoing.  Read all about it below.

Our resident playgroup, Busy Bodies, has a rather strenuous fundraiser happening this month too – find out what below.

Apple Day is coming up and we have some visitors to Trellech Teas.  So, grab a cuppa, and read on…

Trellech Teas is Three
Friday September 25th

Can you believe it?  We’ve been running the Teas for three whole years?  We’ve made over £12,000 in total – much of which has gone to help pay for the recent renovations at the Hall.  Much more importantly, though (at least in my opinion) is the fantastic community spirit at the Teas.  I know many of you really enjoy coming along – and we enjoy having you there too.

Come along this week and celebrate with us.  I have a very special cake slice that will make its debut.  We will also hopefully get some visitors you’ll recognise from days gone by.

Hope to see you all there.

We need YOU!
As you know, Trellech Teas is run entirely by volunteers.  The more people who can bake and/or serve, the better.  We need more bakers and especially more helpers on the day.  If you could spare some time, even if it’s only now and then, please let me know.  t: 01600 860967 or e: sarahwhiddett@hotmail.co.uk

Apple Day
Saturday October 17th
Sue Flower is organising this year’s Apple Day for October 17th.  If you’d like to help – via contributions for the day or to help out on the day, please contact Sue onflowertrek@googlemail.com or 01600 860754.

Hall Renovations
You may have noticed that we now have shiny new toilets.  The kitchen is also in the process of being upgraded to allow users to cater for large events.  This is the result of a program of upgrades planned by the Trustees to make the Hall a much nicer environment to use. For more information about what has been done – and what is still left to do – please click here.

Busy Bodies Fundraiser

As a registered charity, Busy Bodies attempts to keep fees at a minimum to be inclusive and open to all, and this means there is always a  huge amount of fundraising that has to happen.

A small group of parents and staff are carrying out a sponsored hike on Sunday 27th September, walking the three tallest South Wales Peaks in one day:
·      Pen y Fan
·      Waun Fach
·      Fan Brycheiniog
This will be around 20km of demanding walking – no small feat for anybody!

Please sponsor this excellent initiative. All funds raised will go towards providing much needed equipment for the playgroup.

You can donate online – click here. If you choose the online option, please send Laura Sims a text with the amount so she can check it’s gone through. (07733 448346).

Good luck – hopefully we’ll have some photographic evidence next time!

Take Over Teas

Last month The Narth WI and Garden Club took over Trellech Teas to help raise money for their groups.  We had a lovely afternoon and I’m really pleased to tell you that they raised a healthy £225.  So, thank you everyone who came along and supported.

Look out next month for requests for next year’s Take Over Teas opportunities.

Food Co-operative
As you (hopefully!) know we’ve been running a Food Co-op scheme at Trellech Teas for a few months now.  This was instigated by Rosemary Decker-Thomas who has organised weekly deliveries and orders.  It proved very popular at the beginning, but interest seems to have been tailing off of late.  If you’d like to find out what you can order, or if you’d like to place an order, please drop into the Teas at any time.  We need a minimum of 10 orders each week to make it work.

Isn’t the autumn such a lovely season?  The smells, the final hedgerow bounty and kicking through the leaves.  And we’re so lucky to be living in an area that shows autumn off at its best.
There’s a lot to report this month – visiting stalls to Trellech Teas, a trip to Bath Christmas Market, a Christmas Market in the Hall, the TCF Christmas lunch, an opportunity to raise funds for your favourite good cause, a new dog training class and a fascinating speaker telling us all about the importance of netting.  Phew!  So, grab a cuppa and read on……Sarah

Charitable Surgery in Africa
Friday November 21st
