Trellech Village Hall Newsletter – May 2016

Welcome

Last week I was driving home from a trip to North West Wales where I’d enjoyed a few days of glorious blue skies and sunshine.  Almost as soon as I drove past the ‘Welcome to England’ sign in Shropshire on my way home, the heavens opened and I drove through driving rain, sleet and thick snow.  Talk about four seasons in one day!  Now we’re forecast some warmer and sunnier days – just in time for the weekend we hope.

This month there’s some exciting news from Trellech Teas – including the results from the last quarter’s accounts and some special Tea Times coming up.  We also have a Table Top Sale coming up, but we’ve moved the date as it clashed with an event at the Methodist Church.  Plans for the Trellech BIG Weekend are moving along nicely too.

Sadly folks, this is my last newsletter.  Fear not, though, your monthly missive will be continuing so you won’t miss out.

More on all this news and events below.

Trellech Teas news
Friday May 13th
Next week we have a Take Over Teas, this time being run by Trellech’s Busy Bodies Play Group.  As you probably know, the Take Over Teas is an opportunity for a fund raising group to take over our weekly event and all the income, after expenses, goes to their group.Busy Bodies have run the Teas before and it’s always great fun.  So please come along any time between 2:00pm and 4:30pm and support them – even if you don’t normally get to Trellech Teas.

Quarterly results
In the first three months of 2016 we raised just over £1,200 at Trellech Teas.  This is one of our best quarters since we started in September 2012.  Overall, since we began, Trellech Teas has raised an impressive £14,767!  Once again this is totally down to the fantastic team of Tea Ladies and bakers who give their time, resources and baking skills for free.  I know their input – however great or small – is very much appreciated.  Huge thanks to each and every one of you.

If anyone would like to see the detailed accounts please email Sarah (address below).

A right royal celebration
Friday June 10th 2:00pm – 4:30pm

union_jack_paper_flag.jpg

Trellech Teas will be hosting an afternoon tea to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday (any excuse!).  It’ll be Trellech Teas XL – the same great cakes, tea and coffee but we’ll also have some savoury snacks on offer and maybe some cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off!

If you’d like to contribute something to this event please contact Sue Flower who is co-ordinating it.  Sue Flower – flowertrek@gmail.com.

Table Top Sale
June 4th 2:00pm – 4:00pm
garage_sale_home.jpgPlease note the new date
If you’re having a Spring Clean or decluttering then here’s the place to sell on your good quality but no longer wanted items (no junk please).  To book a table for just £10 please contact Sarah Whiddett via email (sarahwhiddett@hotmail.co.uk) – places are limited.  If you’re not selling (or even if you are!) this will be the place to come if you’re looking for a bargain.

Farewell
This is my last e-newsletter.  I’ve been putting finger to keyboard pretty much every month since the first regular newsletter in 2012 (and a few random ones before that!) and it’s time for someone else to take over the honours.  Christopher Edwards is a Trustee for the Village Hall.  Many of you will know Chris as one of the organisers of talks hosted by the Monmouth Conservatives.  If you have any news relating to the Village Hall that you would like included in future e-newsletters then please let Chris know.  His email address is edwardscge@hotmail.com.

Trellech Village Hall Newsletter – April 2016

Welcome
Do I detect a hint of warmth in the air?  Spring has definitely sprung – all the beautiful daffodils have been nodding away for a while and I saw my first bluebell last week.  What a lovely time of year.

This Saturday come along and meet the men from MARS and find out if they really are little and green!  And, did you know there is a new NHS centre opening near Cwmbran?  You can find out more about this and how it will impact other services at a meeting on Monday.  And, if you fancy a slice of gluten-free cake on a Friday afternoon guess where you can find one?

So, grab a cuppa and read on……

Sarah

A night with the men from MARS
Saturday April 9th 7:30pm
Enjoy a night with the stars with men from MARS (Monmouth Astronomical Research Society).  Dr Keith Moseley will give a presentation on the Night Sky including the latest on Tim Peake and the ISS.  After light refreshments Keith and Colin Harris will set up their telescopes for star gazing – weather permitting of course.

This event is part of the Chepstow Walking Festival.  For more information on this, and all the other great events, please visit their website www.walksinchepstow.co.uk.

Future NHS Services in Gwent
Monday April 11th 7:00pm
Llanfrechfa Grange near Cwmbran is due to have a new Specialist and Critical Care Centre opening in 2019. If you’d like to find out what will be provided and how it will impact on existing hospitals or if you have any particular worries or questions you would like answers to (or if you’d just like to find out more about it all) then come along on Monday.
At the invitation of Trellech United Community Council Julian Hayman, of the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board will be outlining what’s being planned and answering questions.

Everyone is welcome.

Cakes at Trellech Teas
Did you know that most weeks we have at least one gluten free cake/biscuit option available at Trellech Teas?  And, if you have any special dietary requirements, then as long as we know in advance we can do our best to cater for you too.  We can’t cater for extreme allergies (e.g. very sensitive nut allergy) because all our cakes are baked in domestic kitchens, but we will do our best to provide something for everyone.

We also now offer ‘take out’ cakes.  We’ve always done this on an ‘ad-hoc’ basis but not advertised it.  However, if you’d like to take a slice of cake home for later or for someone who couldn’t make it to the Teas, please ask one of the Tea Ladies.  After 4:00pm we can also offer larger slices of cake e.g. half a cake, or even a whole one if there’s one left (which is very unlikely!).  Prices are based on the £1.50 per slice we normally charge.

Trellech BIG Weekend
July 15-17
Our next meeting to discuss plans for this year’s BIG Weekend is April 19th, 8:00pm at The Lion Inn.  Please come along if you’d like to be involved or have ideas about the events that could take place.

All events will be posted up on the BIG Weekend website so take a look from time to time to find out what’s happening. www.trellechbigweekend.co.uk

Trellech BIG Weekend: July 15th, 16th and 17th

TrellechBIGWeekendThis year’s BIG Weekend is starting to take shape and we’ve set the dates.  So far we’re repeating some of the successful elements of last year’s event, including the Dog Show and skittles on Saturday afternoon and Sunday lunch at The Lion, this year with a jazz band to ‘serenade’ us as we eat.  We also hope to organise another Wine Tasting event on the Saturday evening and music in the church on the Friday evening.  As ever, the weekend will kick off with Trellech Teas on the Friday.

There are plenty of opportunities for everyone to get involved so if you would like to take part – helping organising something, fundraising for your own good cause or offering your talents in any way, please let me know.

Our next meeting is scheduled for April 19th, 8:00pm at The Lion.  If you can’t make it, but would like to contribute, email me using sarahwhiddett@hotmail.co.uk

Trellech Village Hall Newsletter – March 2016

Welcome
Driving past the work that’s being done on the new housing in Trellech has got me thinking about what a great community the new ‘Trellechies’ are joining.  With our shop, pub, church, schools, doctors and village hall there is no excuse to be lonely or feel isolated.

Trellech Teas is OPEN on Good Friday, so please come along.  We’ll have Easter goodies for everyone.  There is also some news below about this year’s BIG Weekend and some advance notice of a very special evening with the stars and the men from MARS.

So, as always, grab a cuppa and read on….
