2017 Race Report
142 runners took part in the first ever Trellech Beacon Dash on Sunday October 22nd. The 10km multi-terrain race is a new race organised by Spirit of Monmouth Running Club. The race starts at Trellech and after a short stretch of road, enters the forestry for some challenging and technical woodland trails.
James Everett of Dursley Running Club was the overall race winner and senior men’s age category winner, with a time of 38 minutes 19 seconds.
The first man to reach the Beacon – and crowned “King of the Beacon” – was Rob Gordon of Mynydd Ddu Running Club, who also won the MV40 age category and 3rd place overall, with a time of 39 minutes 01.
Faye Johnson of Pontypool Running Club was crowned “Queen of the Beacon”. Faye went on to be the overall winner of the ladies’ race and so won the senior female age category too, in a time of 46 minutes 27 seconds.
Niki Morgan of Chepstow Harriers was 2nd lady home and winner of the FV50 category, with a time of 47:31. Fellow Chepstow Harrier Lisa Jeffrey was 3rd lady home and winner of the FV40 category, with a time of 47:33. Jan Edwards of Wye Valley Runners won the FV60 category, in a time of 59:17.
Charlie Lowther of Eden Runners placed 2nd overall, with a time of 38:51. Charlie Northey of Brecon Running Club won the MV50 category in 46 minutes 18 and David Daniels of Cobra Running & Tri Club won the MV60 category with a time of 46:58.
The first man home for Spirit of Monmouth was Matt Unsworth, in 15th place overall, with a time of 45:09. Leanne Meek was the first lady home for the club, 10th lady overall, with a time of 52:50.
